The hamlet was settled by workers of the Kavanagh block of CN Rail and was named for Charles Edmund Kavanagh, railway superintendent. The grain elevators have since closed and been relocated. Current council members are: Tim and Kim Rhodes, and Pat and Sarah Gillis.

Kavanagh is a hamlet in Alberta, located between Millet and Leduc. Kavanagh is approximately 30 km south of Edmonton, the capital of Alberta.
