Rihanna concert chronology

The Rated R Tour is an upcoming concert tour by Barbadian singer Rihanna (born Robyn Rihanna Fenty) to support her fourth studio album Rated R, starting April 16, 2010. The first tour dates were released by her official website on December 9, 2009.[1] Confirming her 2010 tour to MTV News on December 3, 2009, Rihanna said, "We gonna be going on tour in the spring and the tickets are going to be up for presale in a couple weeks, actually." MTV also quoted her as saying, "It's going to be a worldwide tour, so it's going to be a very long tour. We'll definitely be in your city, so look out for that."[2]

About the tour

On December 9, 2009, Rihanna announced new dates for the tour. Serving as the tour director will be Jamie King, who has just previously worked with Madonna and Britney Spears. Rihanna enlisted Simon Henwood as the creative director for Rated R. He designed the logo and conceived the brand and styling of the album, videos and TV spots. He will contribute to the forthcoming tour, including the show's stage design, costumes and background visuals.[3]

The stage design for Rihanna's promotional concert in London was described as "a futuristic TV scrapyard", as there were many television sets and dummies on stage.[4]

Rihanna is expected to announce new tour dates soon as the tickets for the currently known dates are selling out fast. She recently released an extra date in Dublin for this reason.[5] Rihanna recently posted on her official web site that US tour dates are coming this summer.[6]

In an interview, Rihanna said, "Expect some sexy surprises when I come to the UK. I'll go all out on the tour, which I hope to bring to some UK festivals."[7]

Promotion

  • Rihanna performed on The X Factor (UK) in November 2009. After her performance, she announced that she would be coming back to Britain in May 2010 for her tour. This announcement helped to boost the early ticket sales.
  • In February 2010, O2 announced a competition for customers in which they could win tickets to see Rihanna on her UK tour and signed merchandise. 25 tickets were available altogether.

Supporting acts

  • Pixie Lott had been confirmed to open on the UK tour from May 7 to May 26, 2010.[8]
