Haruna is a fictional character who is the antagonist of the third Tenchi Muyō! movie, Tenchi Muyō! in Love 2: Haruka Naru Omoi (also known as Tenchi Forever).

Haruna was a former lover of Yōshō, and the two had left Jurai for Earth to have a better life together (as Haruna was not royalty, they could not marry on Jurai). However, the journey was a difficult one, and as a result Haruna fell ill. Tragically, she died just before they were to land on Earth.

Saddened over losing her, Yōshō buried Haruna's body on the grounds of what would be the Masaki shirine, along with Haruna's camellia tree. He was surprised to see that the tree began to flourish there and subsequently took cuttings from the tree, planting them around Japan to show Haruna the world they had planned to spend their lives together in. However, on one of these journeys he met Itsuki, whom he would later marry and have a daughter named Achika with. Achika, in turn, would give birth to Tenchi.

Years later, Haruna's spirit, which had been in the original camellia tree all this time, was aroused from its deep slumber when the tree put forth a final burst of energy into its last flowers (the tree was old by now and would not live into another season). Somehow, Yōshō's happiness over the years disturbed Haruna, felt that she had been cheated out of the happiness that had been rightfully hers. So after Tenchi got into another argument with Ryōko and Ayeka, he retreated into the woods near the shrine, where he encountered the camellia tree. There, Haruna's spirit beckoned Tenchi to come with her, whereupon she took him to another dimension.

Once there, Tenchi was given an older form as a long-haired art student in Tōkyō, where he lived with Haruna in a small apartment. His memories of the past were blocked, but somehow one memory would surface from time to time: his memory of Ryōko. On two occasions he tried to paint her likeness; however, each time Haruna saw and destroyed those paintings out of jealousy.

After six months of fruitless searching, Ryōko and Ayeka, with help from Washū, were able to locate the dimension Tenchi was being held in. Haruna was able to thwart their first rescue effort, while their next one was stopped by Tenchi himself (mostly because he did not want to see anyone hurt; namely Haruna, whom Ryōko had begun to threaten). This caused Ryōko much grief. However, after that, Tenchi forced Haruna to confront her past.

Meanwhile, Yōshō saw that the camellia tree was still blooming in fall and decided to destroy it, thereby allowing Haruna to rest. It was only then that Haruna acknowledged that she had been wrong about taking Tenchi away, and she finally let him go. After being persuaded by Ayeka, Ryōko went back to the dimension and rescued Tenchi right before it collapsed upon Haruna's departure.
