Following the collapse of Air Europe, there were capacity shortages amongst British tour operators and the airline founders hoped that there would be realistic chances of success for a new charter company, so they founded Ambassador Airways in 1992.

Delivery positions were quickly secured for two Boeing 757s, even though the necessary licensing procedures had not been completed. As the airline did not have its own operating licence, two 757’s from Caledonian Airways were used. Operating approval followed in the spring of 1993, with the first flight on May 21, 1993.
