Club Atlético Obras Sanitarias de la Nación (known simply as Obras Sanitarias or Obras) is a sports club in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Originally known for its rugby union section, today the club is mostly famous for its basketball team.
History
Obras Sanitarias was founded in 1917 by employees of the state enterprise Obras Sanitarias de la Nación (translatable in English to "Sanitation Works of the Nation"). In 1978, Obras inaugurated the indoor arena Estadio Obras Sanitarias and, two years later, the first synthetic field hockey pitch in South America.
Sports
Sports played at the club include: basketball, rugby union, field hockey, swimming, tennis, volleyball and chess.
Basketball
Obras Sanitarias plays in the professional Liga Nacional de Básquetbol (Argentine first division). Their home games are played at Estadio Obras Sanitarias and Polideportivo Municipal de San Rafael.
Obras Sanitarias, along Brazilian Esporte Clube Sírio, were the only two South American team that won the Intercontinental Cup. Obras did so in 1983, defeating Italian Jollycolombani Cantù.
