John Medley

John Medley, (19 December 1804 – 9 September 1892), was a Church of England clergyman who was educated at Oxford and who became the first bishop of Fredericton in 1845.

Prior to arriving in Canada to take up his post in Fredericton, Medley was an active priest in England. In Canada, he was instrumental in developing the Canadian church with its own distinct form of Anglican worship. In 1879 Medley succeeded Ashton Oxenden as metropolitan of Canada.
