Sleaford Joint Sixth Form is a partnership between Carre's Grammar School and St George's Academy to provide greater learning opportunties for all students. It is widely thought that Carre's is the better school for the traditional subject (i.e. Sciences due to is Grammar School status and science specialism) and that St George's is better suited towards the more modern subjects.

History

The Sixth form was amalgamated in 1983 in order to increase the education opportunities for all of the students from Sleaford's three secondary schools. At the time it was unprecedented and has since received national acknowledgement for its achievements, mainly due to the fact that the partnership is between a Grammar School(s) and a comprehensive/academy.

Kesteven and Sleaford High School

The sixth form used to be inclusive of all of the Sleaford Secondary Schools: Carre's (Grammar School), St Georges Academy (formerly St Georges College of Technology) and Kesteven and Sleaford High School (Grammar School). However, before the beginning of this academic year (2010–11) Kesteven and Sleaford Sixth Form thought it appropriate to leave the partnership for reasons unknown to all.

Essentially, it was this decision that resulted in Carre's changing its sixth form admissions policy to allow girls into their school, because they felt it unfair that the students of Kesteven and Sleaford High School had a reduced amount of options. Obviously, this ment that many girls from KSHS joint the joint sixth form with Carre's as their base school. As a matter of fact, there were 49 new students to join the sixth form this year and almost all coming form KSHS.

Looking towards the future it becomes clear that the trend of girls leaving KSHS to join Carre's will continue. I only have to reference the recent sixth form open evening held at Carre's Grammar School, where it is safe to estimate that around half of the year 11 students attending were girls, and primarily from Kesteven and Sleaford High School.
