The brand and company were created in 1980 after development of the Salukia wellspring in Katzrin, Golan Heights. After additional tests with the wellspring water, Eden Springs received permission to market its water in 1983. In 1998, Mey Eden expanded its services in Europe and created the brand name "Eden Springs". In 2003, Mey Eden and Groupe Danone combined their Europe activity in the water gallons marketing with the name of Eden Springs Europe. Mey Eden had recently started to product water coolers, water container holders and disposable cups as well.

Controversy

The Israeli-owned company has been the target of boycotts in the United Kingdom because of accusations that its original wellspring location is in an occupied territory (Golan Heights) should be considered an illegal profiteering of resources in violation of international law.[1]

In 2007, the student organization, Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (SPSC), pushed for a boycott by universities but were rejected by the students on grounds that the company's subsidiary in Scotland was British with all its water sources located in the UK.[2]

In 2009, Strathclyde University cancelled its contract with Eden Springs after a sit-in by 40 students organized by the SPSC.[3]

In July 2010, City Council of Villanueva de Duero, Spain removed Eden Springs water from all Government Buildings after a campaign by local BDS activists.[4]
