Reggie Rock Bythewood (born July 7, 1965) in The Bronx, New York City, New York, is a film director, writer, actor and producer. His credits include serving as the writer for Spike Lee's Get on the Bus, the writer/director for Biker Boyz starring Derek Luke and Laurence Fishburne, and the writer/director/producer for Dancing in September starring Isaiah Washington and Nicole Ari Parker. He revised the script for the 2009 biopic Notorious, where he is credited as a co-writer.He also wrote and directed the Laila Ali documentary, “Daddy’s Girl: Daughter of The Greatest.”
Bythewood graduated from the High School of Performing Arts and from Marymount Manhattan College, where he studied acting. While in New York, he co-founded a theater company called The Tribe. Bythewood wrote and directed two plays with The Tribe, "The Harlem Cowboy" and "The Arm Wrestle."
His stint at acting has included roles as teenager R.J. Morgan on the NBC daytime soap, Another World from 1981 to 1983 and the part of Rickey in the feature film The Brother From Another Planet in 1984.
In 1990, Bythewood moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting and became one of the first members of Walt Disney's prestigious Writers Fellowship Program. From there, he was hired as a writer on the hit NBC comedy series, A Different World. He went on to write for Fox's drama series New York Undercover, where he was the show's supervising producer.
He is married to Gina Prince-Bythewood, who is also a film director and writer. They met while they were staff writers on the series, "A Different World." They have two children and reside in Los Angeles.
