The Murphy Moose is a large high-wing utility monoplane designed to handle nearly any airport under any conditions. A homebuilt kit aircraft, the Moose can be purchased as a "quick-build" kit which comes partly pre-assembled. Similar in many respects to the de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, the Moose is cheaper both to buy and to operate.
Builders can choose whether to equip their aircraft with the 269 kW (360 hp) Russian M14P 9-cylinder radial, or the horizontally-opposed 187 kW (250 hp) Lycoming O-540. Both engines allow the Moose to take off in roughly 180 m (600 ft), although the radial is lighter, more powerful, and allows for higher endurance.
