This is the year to year membership and makeup of the Premier Basketball League, including league divisional alignment and the circumstances of teams no longer in the league.

Dallas Defenders - ownership revoked mid-season,^[6] replaced by league-run replacement,^[7] folded when no outside owner could be found
Detroit Panthers
Jacksonville JAM - expelled by league, searching for other options^[8]
Jacksonville SLAM - league-run replacement for JAM, folded when no outside owner could be found ^[1]
Las Vegas Thunderbirds - Announced but never played a game.
Mid-Michigan Destroyers^[1]
Montreal Sasquatch^[1]
Quad City Riverhawks^[1]
Reading Railers^[1]
Rockford Fury - folded when the PBL instituted a "one team per owner" rule ^[9]
Southeast Asian All-Stars - previously announced by PBL, have not been heard from since and not on official website's team roster.^[10]
Toronto Lazers - PBL announced a Toronto expansion team but the team did not join the league for the 2009 season. No update from the league on their status.^[11]
Vermont Frost Heaves - folded from lack of funds.^[12]

Teams that left the PBL for another league

Battle Creek Knights - rejoined International Basketball League^[13]
Bluegrass Stallions- left under unspecified circumstances.^[14]
Buffalo Stampede - removed by the league for failure to adhere to operating standards^[15], joined Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League ^[16]
Capitanes de Arecibo - rejoined Baloncesto Superior Nacional
Dayton Air Strikers - joined International Basketball League ^[17]
Halifax Rainmen - left after controversial 2011 playoffs. ^[18]
Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry - left after controversial 2011 PBL Finals, in which they were the losing team. ^[19]
Maryland GreenHawks - joined Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League as Washington GreenHawks,^[20] folded.
Minnesota Ripknees - returned to American Basketball Association,^[21] folded shortly afterward.^[22]
