Accreditation: The Comanche Nation College is pleased to announce that the College received official word from the accrediting body in reference to its submittal of the Preliminary Information Form (PIF) on March 22, 2011. It was stated by the accrediting body that, “It is evident that the Comanche Nation College has dedicated time and effort to develop the infrastructure necessary for achieving candidacy and accreditation. The College has strengths in their legal status, their mission, governance and administration, core values and strategic priorities as related to their culture, qualified personnel, financial capacity, and policies and procedures.” Dr. Lopez states that, “The requirements, to continue in the process, require that the College complete a Self-Study and an on-site visit by the Commission. Comanche Nation College is a two-year, open admissions, American Indian tribal community college. It is located in Lawton, Oklahoma, the capital of the Comanche Nation. The school was chartered by the Comanche Nation Business Committee.[1]
The college is member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium and American Association of Community Colleges. It is the 36th member of the organization and the first tribal college in Oklahoma.[1]
The school occupies a former elementary school building. It is applying but has not yet received accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.[2][3] In the meantime, the college is partnering with Cameron University in Lawton, and students are dually-enrolled.[4]
