The term upstate refers to the northernly portion of at least three U.S. states; those parts further inland and away from the Atlantic Ocean:
- The Upstate of South Carolina
- Upstate New York, north of New York City, which is correspondingly called "downstate"
- Any part of Maine not "Down East"
