Summary
It starts off in the year 1960 with a young man named Govind (Shahid Kapoor), hopping onto a train going to Bombay, India. He ends up in an empty compartment with Ruksar (Priyanka Chopra), a young woman who eloped from her home with her best friend to become a famous film star. Govind is an aspiring musician, and the two bond over their careers. They part ways after the train arrives into Bombay.
While looking for his hotel, Govind runs into a girl who assumes she is following him to her hotel. She then realizes he is staying at the hotel, and leaves flustered. After a few embarrassing encounters, the two gradually become friends. Meanwhile, Ruksar is eager to meet Govind again and the two hit it off at a gathering. When Govind notices a photojournalist following him and Ruksar, he holds his hotel friend's hand to mislead him, all the while not knowing she takes it seriously and falls for him. It is then revealed she is the friend Ruksar had eloped with, and the two meet to tell each other about the man they've met and fallen for. Ruksar tells her to bring her newfound love to her film screening, which Govind agrees to thinking he will tell her about his love for Ruksar once they arrive. Upon meeting, all 3 realize what's happened and part ways sadly.
Fastforwarding to 2012, Kapoor is now portraying a man in college named Krish, breaking up with a girl named Meera who supposedly always argues with him. Chopra now plays a young college girl named Radha, who Krish bumps into mistakenly and she drops everything. Helping her pick up everything, they then leave. Radha notices her phone is missing, and informs a policeman that Krish had stolen her phone while helping her pick things up. Seeing that Krish indeed does have the phone, he tries to plead that their phones must have exchanged and she probably has is. The officer ignores his words and arrests him. A phone in Radha's purse begins to ring, which she picks up and learns it is Krish's birthday. Bailing him out, she offers to buy him a drink at a restaurant and a friendship begins to grow. They spend the night out at parties and around the city, and developing feelings for each other. Krish comes back to his residence to see Meera waiting for him, apologizing for fighting. He tells her they've broken up and there is no need to talk to him anymore. When asked about his whereabouts for the night before, he says he spent the night with Radha, and Meera assumes he slept with her. Leaving in anger, Krish is happy that she's out of his life. Radha and him begin to text everyday, hitting it off. On the day he goes to meet her in her area, he meets Radha's friends and spends the day with his newfound girlfriend and her group. Meera, learning from Krish's friends he went to go meet Radha, angrily uploads embarrassing pictures of Krish into facebook and them as a couple. The pictures go viral throughout the night, reaching Radha's area, where she learns he spent the night with Radha on his birthday 2 hours after he broke up with Meera. Krish ignores Radha trying to have a serious conversation about why he didn't tell her earlier, being too busy retaliating on facebook with embarrassing pictures of Meera and acting immature. Frustrated and humiliated, Radha informs him that if they were to ever break up and this is how he would act, she doesn't want to pursue a relationship and leaves, cutting contact with him.
The movie then goes back to the year 1910, in Lahore during the times of the British Empire. Shahid is portraying a womanizing villager, Jawed. His friends and him encounter two British women in the village, and Jawed attempts to flirt with them. He then visits their house and is seen hitting it off with one of them, but is urged to leave once she hears her father entering the house. He notices him and sends guards after him, chasing him through the whole village. He is at a dead end, entering Aradhana's (Priyanka Chopra) house, and she instructs him to hide under a bed. When the officers question if she has seen him, she misleads them and they leave. Jawed, known for reciting poetry to woo women, tries the same tactics with Aradhana and she seems unamused. Eventually, she recites it back and the two have a connection. As her father also enters the house, he runs off, and it is assumed they have no way of contacting each other again.
Jawed is helping one of his female friends ride a bike, when Aradhana sees him and realizes that she is no different to him. Jawed insists that they will meet again, and she is indeed something special. The two begin to hit it off, as he decides to put all his attention on Aradhana from now on. Aradhana's father asks them to join them in a protest for freedom against the British, but when the officers begin to physically abuse the protestors, it is seen that Jawed hides while Aradhana's father is being hit. Aradhana, being angry with him, begins to ignore him. When Jawed attends a party she is at, they seem to reconcile, but the same officers that had chased him in the beginning intrude the party and arrest Jawed. Aradhana visits Jawed in jail and tells him their love cannot happen and he should move on. He insists that they will indeed, meet again and she should wait. 3 months later, Jawed is freed and goes to her house. Her father informs him that she got married a month ago, and that he should stay away from Aradhana. He finds Aradhana shopping and she tells him, in tears, she only got married to make her father happy. It forwards to Jawed's marriage, also only for the sake of his father's happiness. Aradhana comes to the wedding to see him one last time. During the vows, Jawed objects to the wedding and goes to find Aradhana. He insists he wants to marry her and only her, even if he has to do it 4 times.
The movie then shows the actual ending of all 3 love stories: Once Govind leaves the film premier, he packs up his belongings and boards a train, only to be followed by Ruksar and they start fresh and reconcile. Krish calls Meera and Radha to his college one last time, and tells Meera that they might have been in love, but it's over now. He then professes his love for Radha, telling her that what they had isn't worth giving up on and they get back together. Jawed and Aradhana are finally together. They vow that their love will not only last for this lifetime, but for the rest to come, showing the main intention of the movie.

Reception
The soundtrack got positive reviews from critics. Music expert Joginder Tuteja from Bollywood Hungama gave it 4 stars out of 5 and said: "The music of Teri Meri Kahaani is all set to be a very good success, especially so since it has melody at its base and stars like Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra to further accentuate its appeal. With aggressive promotion of the album further helping its cause, Sajid-Wajid and Prasoon Joshi can be rest assured that their music would reach out to the masses in a big way and find very good appreciation. A winner!" They cited 'Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff', 'Mukhtasar', 'Humse Pyaar Kar Le Tu' and 'Allah Jaane' as their picks.[11] Planet Bollywood stated: "Overall Sajid-Wajid do a good job composing tracks that moves through ten decades (almost) with Prasoon Joshi making every word count with his artistic skills. Listeners seeking something monumental or groundbreaking stuff (like in an Amit Trivedi venture) will leave empty handed as Sajid-Wajid sticks to their basic approach of catchy, easy on the ear music. “Mukhtasar”, “Allah Jaane” and “Humse Pyar Kar Le Tu” will grab instant attention while “Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff: has in it to be a rage if choreographed well and promoted aggressively. To conclude, a much better effort by Sajid-Wajid!"[12] Rumnique Nannar of Bollyspice gave the soundtrack 3 out of 5 stars stating: "Teri Meri Kahaani is definitely one of the better albums by Sajid and Wajid where they prove their mettle outside of masala soundtracks. Yet the album is pleasing in the ears which means it’s going on the strength of 3 good songs, along with the curiosity factor of Shahid and Priyanka on screen again. Give this one a try."[13]
