--- influence on HandMaid's Tale? ---

It seems to me that Atwood's "Handmaid's Tale" borrows a lot from this novel -- the future American theocracy, the sexual harassment disguised as a religious ritual, and the device of using a disillusioned ex-servant of the regime as the first person narrator. Has anybody else discussed this?
