Droidcon is the franchise name for a series of software developer conferences focused on software development for Google's Android mobile framework. The conferences are organized and held outside the USA.
Droidcon [1] arose to fill the void that Google left through providing inadequate developer support and resources. Droidcon started in 2009 in Berlin, as a grass roots effort led by developers themselves. By 2012, Droidcon events were held in Berlin[2], London[3], Tunis[4], Bangalore, Romania[5], Amsterdam[6], and Murcia (Spain). The two biggest Droidcon events were in London and Berlin in 2012, with about 800 to 900 attendees each.
Droidcon is all about developers coming together with developers, to share techniques[7], to network, to announce apps and products[8],[9], and to learn[10],[11] and grow.
Lucasfilm claims the rights to the word "droid" based on its "star wars" franchise, and has issued a "cease and desist" writ against Droidcon.[12]
