Bellzlleb (stylized as BELLZLLEB) was a Japanese metal band, formed in Chiba in 1985 by Tetsu and Yuji. Their sound mixed elements from black metal, doom metal and hardcore with influences from Aleister Crowley, the occult, horror, satanism and the dark, heavy sound of British heavy metal band, Black Sabbath. They extensively toured the Japanese club circuit during the 80's and left various recordings from 1986 until they disassociated in 1992.

History

Bellzlleb was formed in 1985 by junior high school friends, guitarist and composer Tetsu (Genkaku Allergy, Spooky Six Mouse, E.G.O., Love House, Zeus) and drummer, arranger Yuji (Scarecrow, Love House), who were local members of rock band Love House in Chiba, Japan. Rick, the loudest, wildest bass player in Chiba city, was recruited along with Koizumi, the Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath influenced, high-toned female singer which completed the original lineup of the band in 1985. The initiation started playing local clubs such as Chiba Dancing Mother's and local guitar shops that lead to participation in music festivals such as East West sponsored by Yamaha. Their first break came when they opened for thrash metal band Black Rose in 1985, whose guitar player and lead composer Pata later joined X Japan. In 1986 they recorded a live mini flexi sheet at Kagurazaka Explosion, "Satanic Metal".[1] "Satanic Metal" had increased their core fan base which lead to another compilation live recording in 1987, Heavy Metal Force IV. By the Summer of 1987, Bellzlleb had expanded their fan base by extensive club circuiting throughout Japan. Due to health related complications Koizumi left in 1987 to be replaced by Rei (Hardwave) to fill the responsibility. Original member Yuji left in 1988 due to disagreement with musical style and direction changes. The band's first full length album release was delayed for one year for this reason. Fumi was recruited in 1989 to release their first full length, Bellzlleb from Nude Records.[1] Rick left the band not long after this recording due to disagreement with changes in musical style and was replaced by ex-Jurassic Jade bass player, Mataro. With the 1990 line-up they recorded a second full length album, Section II ~Aru Gusha no Shougai~ which was released through Captain Records (owned by Takarajima).[1] Mataro and Fumi parted ways with the band after the recording. Tetsu and Rei without a rhythm section in 1991 released an acoustic recording, Inori from Nude Records.[1] The final line-up before their breakup in 1992 consisted of ex-Rosenfeld bass player Takami and drummer Kimura. The final full-length album, Mr.Ree: ~Kairai to Sad~ was released in 1992.[1] Countless member replacements haunted the life of Bellzlleb throughout the years they existed. They disbanded because Tetsu knew they could not have produced a better sound than they currently had.
