Harry D. Jacobs High School (commonly referred to as Jacobs or HDJ) is a public high school for students in grades 9 through 12 located in Algonquin, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, serving students from the west half of the Village of Algonquin and its surrounding areas, including Lake in the Hills, Gilberts, some of Sleepy Hollow, and some of West Dundee, Illinois. The school is located in McHenry County, Illinois but also draws students from Northern Kane County.

Harry D. Jacobs High School is part of Community Unit School District 300, and one of three high schools serving the district. Feeder schools to Jacobs include Westfield Community School, Dundee Middle School, and Algonquin Middle School. The school is a member of the Illinois High School Association, Fox Valley Conference.

The school colors are brown and gold, and the mascot is the 'Golden Eagle'.

Academics

In terms of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, the school offers Music Theory, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Art Studio, U.S. History, Government and Politics, English Language, English Literature, Psychology, and Environmental Science. The school also offers one of the two courses in AP English and AP Calculus.[4] For the 2012-2013 school year, Jacobs plans to offer an AP Computer Programming class in addition to those above.

While there are no AP courses offered in foreign languages, students may take a fourth or fifth year of study in Spanish, French, or German and may opt to take the appropriate AP test.

Notable alumni

  • Rockne Brubaker - (Class of 2004) figure skater. Brubaker and Keauna McLaughlin won the gold medal at two Junior Grand Prix events, the US National Junior title and the World Junior Championships during the 2006-07 season. In 2008, the duo won medals in two Grand Prix events and were US National Champions at the senior level.
  • Doug Feldmann - Author of ten books on sports history and former baseball scout for the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners, and San Diego Padres.
