Rankings from The Sports Network Poll

The 2012 Southern Conference football season, part of the 2012 NCAA Division I FCS football season competition of college football, began on Thursday, August 30, 2012 with Western Carolina hosting Mars Hill. The season will end with the NCAA Division I Football Championship.

At the FCS level, each team plays eleven regular season games. Ten conference champions (which includes the SoCon champion) and ten at-large teams then meet in a 20-team playoff bracket to determine the national champion. The Southern Conference champion is determined by an eight game, round-robin format in which each member plays every other conference member once.
