Article titles

Re: merging John Davidson (popular singer) and John Davidson (game show host);

I don't really like either of the titles. He has hosted variety programs in addition to game shows, and has also been an actor. Suggestions? Fan-1967 16:50, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Good point, and I thought about that too. John Davidson (entertainer) maybe? He's just done so many different things it's hard to pinpoint something. Kirjtc2 19:02, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

I didn't think of that one, but I think it's a good choice. I just checked the DAB page and the others are a poet, a hockey player and a (redlinked) botanist. Entertainer should make it pretty clear who we're talking about. Fan-1967 20:24, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Faked His Death

John Davidson (entertainer) → John Davidson (game show host) –(unbundled as requested) On the borderline where you'd expect (entertainer) to be a possible for article title WP:CRITERIA, but no, in WP:RS still overwhelmingly known as "host John Davidson" = 1,110 GBooks vs only "entertainer John Davidson" = 77 GBooks; perhaps because his sideline career was as dinner singer of lounge music standards, rather than a TV singer? It doesn't look to perfect when 1,100 vs 77 are for TV "host". The relevant policy is WP:AT, particularly 2. Naturalness ... Such titles usually convey what the subject is actually called in English.
