The 'sub caste ( surname, gotra )Karwal' are a Sikh, Hindu caste found in the state of Uttar Pradesh,Haryana in India. They belong to the old Royal Rajput Kshatriya community and are spread all over the Northern India, in the states of Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP,UK, and MP. According to their traditions, they were Rajputs of Mewar who migrated to Uttar Pradesh in the 19th Century.
A recent research links KARWAL to Rathore and Gharwal rajputs.
