Marinette (loa)

In Haitian Vodou, Marinette is a cruel and vicious loa who was elevated to a lwa after her death.

In her Petro form she is called Marinette Bras Cheche / Marinette Bwa Chech (Marinette of the Dry Arms) or Marinette Pied Cheche (Marinette of the Dry Feet) suggesting that she is skeletal. In Rada form , she is called Marinette of the woods or just Mambo Marinette!

She is believed to be the Mambo who sacrificed the black pig at the culmination of the start of the first Haitian Revolution. While she is feared and tends to ride those she possesses violently, she can also be seen as one who frees her people from bondage.

Marinette is represented by a screech owl and is often seen as the protector of werewolves. Her Catholic counterpart is the Anima Sola (Forsaken Soul) who can either free one from bondage or drag you back. Her colors are black and deep blood red. Her offerings are black pigs and black roosters plucked alive.

Mambo Marinette is not cruel. She only gets cruel in possession, when people burn animals or humans. Some people think they have to burn animals, because of Anima Sola, which is a very evil spirit! Her colors are red and black. She likes Salvia, black pepper, lavender and sweets. She really loves snickers, you can put one on her table and eat another with her! Don´t forget, loas are very human! They need attention! It takes a lot of time, to get warm with a loa, doesn't matter if petro ore rada! If you offer Marinette something, always tell it is hers!

You can throw offerings in the garbage, and say Marinetts offering! Don't put offerings or even things on her table and remove them without talking to her! She realy is afraid, that other spirits or people will steal her things! If you are kind to her, she can be a very good friend and protector! You don´t have to honer her 8 hours a day or something like that! Be carefull of other spirits, or Menthalists, they sometimes try to play her character to get control over you!
