Lieutenant George Irvine Baillie was born in Montreal, Canada on July 30th, 1893. He studied Chemical Engineering at McGill University from 1912-1915 and was a member of McGill's Officer Training Corps for one year before submitting an application to join the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in June 1915. He was 21 years old.
