The Gerson High School, with a history dating back to 1970, offers an alternative educational experience for adolescents in grades 9 - 12 who, for various personal, behavioral and/or relationship reasons, have not been successful in standard school settings. Most students have average to above-average abilities, but exhibit characteristics such as depression, being bullied, intense anxiety, a history of school absences, suicidal thoughts and a tendency to internalize. |
|||
The curriculum at The Gerson School closely mirrors that of most home districts so academic standards are not compromised. Classrooms typically have six to 10 students and are set up based on how the students are most likely to focus and learn. All major academic subjects are offered in addition to many electives, including sociology, Spanish, speech communications, government, history, Caribbean culture, service-learning, art, and computer applications. |
