Originally opened in 1940 as Royal Canadian Air Force Detachment Airdrie, a part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The aerodrome served as the No. 1 Relief Landing Field for No. 3 Service Flying Training School in Calgary. The Detachment closed in 1945. |

Today the aerodrome operates as a private airport and industrial complex. Some of the original RCAF maintenance sheds remain, some used, some not. One of the former barracks is used as the office for Airdrie Mini Self Storage and the original RCAF hangar is occupied by the Alberta Pallet Company, a wood products manufacturing company. |

The original runways remain but are abandoned, with only one of the three is still intact, along with the taxiway. The other two are broken up and only the outlines can be seen. A new runway was built in 2002 down the middle of the original triangle airfield. This new runway is currently used by the Airdrie Flying Club. |
