The School Grounds

The Cathedral School of St. Anne and St. James is Townsville's only Anglican school for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 12, including boarding students from Year 7 to Year 12.

The school is situated in beautiful landscaped grounds in the suburb of Mundingburra, just a few kilometres from the Townsville CBD. Air-conditioned classrooms and modern facilities provide an excellent learning environment.

History

The school was established as St Anne's School (girls school) in 1917 and was operated by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent. The school was originally established at Synod Hall (now The Townsville City Council Building) and in 1958 moved to its premesis in Mundingburra. In 1978 the school became co-educational.

Senior School (Grades 8-12)

The senior school is set around the Nancy Armati Quadrangle. Within the senior school there are 5 science labratories, 11 general purpose classrooms, three computer labratories and a number of other subject specific rooms. All the schools rooms are fully air-conditioned for the hot summer months.

The quadrangle lies in the shadow of a magnificent 100+ year old rain tree which provides shade from the harsh North Queensland sun. Within the senior school there is also a fully airconditioned library housing thousands of books and 30+ computers which students have access to at all times after 8:00 am.

Boarding

The Cathedral School is home to more than 100 boarding students from many different backgrounds, including those from rural families, coastal and island communities and overseas.

Boys and girls from Year 7 to Year 12 are accommodated in separate dormitories, where they are cared for by house parents and dormitory supervisors. Staff take care to establish a friendly and supportive environment, based on co-operation, trust and mutual respect.

Outdoor Education

All grades between 2 and 10 participate in the school's outdoor education program. The outdoor education program helps to develop skills in survival as well as a real life application for many subjects including Biology, Geography, History, Mathematics and English. Outdoor Education 'Camps' as they are commonly called start at 2 days and go up to 10 days for grade 10's. Students Hike Rainforest and Bush Trails, Kayak on flowing rivers and lakes, camp in remote areas and island and in grade 10 learn to sail on the Queensland Sail Training Ship the "South Passage".
