Ronnie Liang (born January 31, 1985) is a Filipino singer. He is the former finalist of the popular reality-talent search franchise in the Philippines, Pinoy Dream Academy. He was the second runner-up next to Jay-R Siaboc, who is one of his closest friends from the said contest, and grand star dreamer Yeng Constantino. He sang the popular OPM hit "Ngiti" and is a mainstay of ABS-CBN's Sunday variety show ASAP 08.[1]

Biography

Liang is the youngest of the seven children of a low-income family. Yet, despite this, he always dreamed of helping his family alleviate themselves from the plight of poverty. A diligent working student, he supported himself through college by working in a fastfood outlet and a video shop while studying at Holy Angel University in his hometown of Angeles City, Pampanga. All his sacrifices and hard work paid off as he graduated with a BS Education degree (physics, chemistry and biology major). He is Filipino-Chinese.[citation needed]

Career

The Angeles City native started working part-time as a ramp model, until his manager discovered he can sing. This became a turning point in Ronnie’s career as his manager encouraged him to join singing contests. Among them was Pinoy Pop Superstar. He first rose to notoriety as the grand contender that was disqualified from the singing competition because he had a manager. He could have been the eventual champion of the season, but out of loyalty to his manager, he opted to leave the competition.

Liang then joined Pinoy Dream Academy and made it past the initial screening and was fortunate enough to be one of the 20 scholars to study inside the Academy. After a few months, Ronnie made it to the Honor’s List of Six and ended up as PDA's second runner-up.

Now that the competition is over, Liang busies himself with gigs and guestings with PDA’s Top 6. However, priority goes into the recording of his album under Universal Records, which is due to be out soon. He also wishes to venture into acting but that would have to wait as his priority for this year is singing. He remains thankful to the people who support him– his family, most especially his mother, his manager, George Roca, and his loyal supporters, namely the Ronnians, Superonics and macaRONNIEs.[2]

Ronnie Liang became Department of Education Endorser/spokesperson for Brigada Skuwela 2008-2010 (school brigade) to inspire the youth to finish their studies and achieve their dreams, also to encourage the people to participate in rebuilding, reviving and restoring public schools in the country.

He was launched as a product endorser of Joel Cruz Signatures brand of perfume in August of 2009 at the SM Sky Dome and was relaunched at the 1@11 event at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in January of 2011.

Liang released his 2nd album titled May Minamahal ( loving someone) under viva records that reached a gold record status last november 2013 and then released hid 3rd album under Universal Records titled Songs of Love (october 2014) Liang recently launched his 1st starring movie titled ESOTERIKA;MAYNILA directed by elwood perez as the opening for cinema one originals film festivals.
