The Cold Waves Music Festival began in September of 2012 as a memorial event to honor the passing of Chicago musician and sound engineer Jamie Duffy to raise money for his family.

"COLD WAVES is a celebration of Chicago’s relationship with industrial music, honoring a fallen brother to raise money and awareness for Hope For the Day, a charity utilizing music and the arts as a defense mechanism against suicide." [1]
