Synopsis
The episode starts off with Yusuke and Botan floating in the air as ghosts. Yusuke is complaining about having to wait to be brought back to life. Koenma then appears and takes Yusuke to his body that is located at Yusuke's new apartment. Koenma explains that energy from the body and energy from the soul each have their own wave lengths and that until the 2 are perfectly aligned they can not become one. Koenma then tells Yusuke that the two will be aligned tommorow and that if he misses this chance he'll have to wait for 52 years (50 years in the Japanese version). Also, he can't be brought back to life unless someone donates their life energy to Yusuke through the lips. Koenma gets Yusuke's body ready for the ressurection and tells Yusuke to contact the three people that want him back the most and give them the message to kiss Yusuke's body. Yusuke comes to the conclusion that the three people that want him back the most are his mother, Kuwabara, and Keiko. Yusuke decides to rule out his mom because she is usually drunk or has a hangover. He gets in Kuwabara's dream and Kuwabara kisses him in the dream, but Kuwabara wakes up screaming and terrified. Attention goes to Keiko who is at Yusuke's apartment by his bedside. Keiko contemplates whether or not to kiss Yusuke like in her dream but shrugs it off stating that it was just a dream. Keiko then goes to school and is dissapointed to not see Kuwabara anywhere because she wanted to ask him about the dream. The principal then enters the classroom and tells Keiko that there is something wrong with her mother. The doctor tells Keiko that her mother has over worked herself and is dehydrated. Keiko decides to stay by her mother all night which makes things hard for Yusuke. Yusuke tries to contact Kuwabara and his mother but to no avail. Yusuke starts to give up because it's 11:45 already, but Botan has one last idea. Botan posseses Keiko's mother's body and tells Keiko to remember her dream and that time runs out at midnight. Keiko then rushes to Yusuke's apartment and kisses him. Koenma states that she was too late but wasn't sure. Yusuke then opens his eyes and sits up hugging Keiko.
Yusuke is walking down the street excited to be alive when two kids try to take his wallet. Yusuke gets teary-eyed and is excstatic that they can see him and just walks away. A mysterious fortuneteller calls Yusuke over and tells him that he needs to go on a mission but Yusuke declines and walks away. Yusuke then goes into a restaurant where a group of students from Rugafuchi Junior High (Kasanegabuchi Middle School in the Japanese version) have taken Kuwabara's turf. Yusuke acts like he is just a paying customer. Yusuke then notices that the leader of the group has horns but shrugs it off. The kids start talking about Kuwabara and if he'll bring the comic books that the leader forced him to steal which goes against Kuwabara's code. Kuwabara then shows up and gives him the comic books and tells the leader to give back Eikichi who is Kuwabara's cat. The leader notices that there's a receipt and tells Kuwabara to get on his knees and apologize. Kuwabara's friends tell Kuwabara not to do it but because of Kuwabara's love for kittens, he complies. Both Kuwabara and the other kids head outside to settle things. The leader tells Kuwabara to hit his three friends until he says stop or else he'll kill Eikichi. Kuwabara refuses because it is against his code. Just as one of the kids from the group is about to kill Eikichi, to everyone's shock, Yusuke beats down the guy. Kuwabara, his friends, and Yusuke all start beating up the kids. Yusuke notices that the leader is running away so he gives Kuwabara Eikichi and starts to chase after him. The leader trips and Yusuke grabs his collar and knocks him out with a punch. A little demon creature comes out of his mouth and tries to get away but Yusuke grabs it and tries to understand what it is. The mysterious fortuneteller then appears and tells Yusuke that the creatures name is Jyaki and that he is wanted for five previous convictions in the spirit world. The fortuneteller then tells Yusuke that he has all that is required to be a spirit detective and addreses him by his name. Yusuke is alarmed to learn that the fortuneteller knows his name and is in fact, Botan. Koenma then appears and tells Yusuke that he is for now, the spirit detective of the Earth and that Botan will be his assistant. Botan then takes Jyaki to Spirit World leaving Yusuke confused thus ending the episode. Template:Anime Ep Nav
