    Referencing errors on Liquid smoke

    Reference help requested. On the Liquid smoke page, your edit caused an unsupported parameter error (help). (Fix | Ask for help) My references are 2-6, 1and7 existed.     The only ref error showing was to No.5 where an unknown parameter (page number=) (should be page=) caused the red error message. I'm not certain that {{cite book}} is the correct template for the source but that apart the refs seem OK. (I did a couple of minor tweaks). Eagleash (talk) 01:43, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Personality cult surrounding Jimbo Wales

    Please do not block me, or delete this question. I am not a troll. I am just asking a question. Why is it that the slightest criticism of Jimbo Wales is immediately shut down on Wikipedia? I have witnessed other people delete questions on his talk page, and I have been dissent against Jimbo clamped down with force.

    Secondly, if I was to create an article entitled Criticism of Jimbo Wales, just like Criticism of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Criticism of Mother Teresa, Criticism of Akira Kurosawa or Criticism of Osama bin Laden, would this be immediately deleted even if it was a great article that met guidelines? --Wintereichengaarden (talk) 07:33, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Most reverted comments at Jimbo's talk page are from banned users or trolls. There is plenty of regular criticism there. The essay Wikipedia:Criticism provides some guidelines about criticism articles.     We have an article on Criticism of Wikipedia that's still standing. Anecdotal, but I've had almost the opposite experience (particularly recently): indirect appeals to Jimbo are usually inexperienced editors who think his name is a magic word that will get them their way.     Prevent speedy deletion

    Hello. This image is on RfC but it automatically gets tag for deletion per WP:CSD#F5 by the bot, because the image was previously in an article but now it's used in talk page for consensus.     @CerberaOdollam: If the discussion concludes that the image is suitable for the article, post at WP:REFUND so that an admin can undelete it for you.     Proposed deletion question

    If, a few days ago, I placed a proposed deletion on a page, notified the user, they deleted the notice from their talk page [that's fine, they called it "needless blah"]. but then they delete the notice from the actual article.     The prod tag links to Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, so you ought to have read that page. The article's creator is allowed to remove the prod tag, and you were violating the process by adding it again.     Help with school page

    I ran across Hinchingbrooke School which is experiencing a lot of silly vandalism and reversion. I am learning to use Stiki, so I clicked vandalism for the latest problem, planning to go to the page and make further corrections. Looking at the page history, there is a lot of nonsense going on today. I could roll it back to November 19, but it will just get hit again.     I dispute the contents of the entry on Dolores Cross. I am her son and you have many facts wrong. Morris Brown had been obtaining money illegally (based on ineligible students) from the federal government for many years prior to my mother's term as President. When she tried to put a stop to the practice, the college's financial officer drew down the money then asked for protection under the whistle blower act.Just because the media says so does not make it right.     I did and saw the error message which subsequently disappeared. That's why I said 'currently'. The error related to a ref name in the infobox which had not been defined. There was no indication on the page, at that time, of what the editor intended to tie the ref name to. I did not though, look at the licensing as it not something I know a great deal about really.     I am trying to replace bare references with fully specified references. A lot of them are magazine articles, eg in Newsweek or whatever. When I am in edit mode and click to insert a Cite, it offers me four templates, for News, Journal, etc. I am not offered Magazine Template, even though I have the impression that that does exist.     Yes it does exist; it has replaced Journal for non academic publications. The visual editor (edit mode) may not have caught up as yet. You might have to do them the 'long way'. Have you tried adding the template within the Vis Ed editing window. If you type 2 curly brackets it should ask you 'add template?' I.e. click on the ref No. and then 'edit' and go from there...some experimentation might be necessary. Eagleash (talk) 00:21, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    I'm not sure how to phrase this question, but is there a policy on using subjective words to describe an organization when refering to it in another article. For example, would it be appropriate to say "he is a reporter for conservative Fox News..." or "he writes for the liberal website Huffington Post", rather than simply saying "he is a reporter for Fox News...", etc.?     Reversing a redirect

    Uchtred of Galloway is a redirect to Uhtred of Galloway. But the subject's name, throughout the article and in the majority of external sources that I have been able to find, is spelled Uchtred.     I note the admin who originally named the page also changed its name from Uchtred to Uhtred, which suggests either a mistake or some reconsideration. A few sources use Uhtred. However it doesn't look to controversial - because the redirect contains more than one revision, if you are still sure it wants to be moved, you will be able to request the redirect's deletion using the {{db-move}} template. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:48, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    What is your question about editing Wikipedia, Mikiwikimorgy? If you're thinking about writing an article, please see your first article. If you want to request an article, you can do so at Requested articles (though there is a huge backlog). But if the term was only created in 2016, it is unlikely (though not impossible) that it has already been written about enough to ground an article.     Nothing. If your business meets our notability guidelines, then someone without a conflict of interest will write the article. Wikipedia is not here for you to advertise on and the community owns all pages here (not businesses). For there to be an article about your company, there needs to be multiple professionally published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are specifically about your business but NOT affiliated with it, and someone who does not work for or with you or your company would have to write the article based on those sources.     Problems concern American and British pronunication differences

    I was reading the page the other day, and I happened to notice a slight piece of evidence questionable and unsourced. I first created a section on the talk page request the change to occur. I got one response in favor and one against. So, I made the removal. Some one did revert back to the original text. This is not my problem, for I know well that they reserve the right to do such. However, on the talk page this man said, and I quote, "American English is rubbish because they don't accept alternate British pronunciations & they butcher pronunciations of English & foreign words, i.e. entertainment from popular television & music." Naturally, as an American, I am offended by this. Furthermore, I kept telling this man to write his source in the article, but he only will insert the source on the talk page. No matter how much I find his sources does not accurately support his claim, he will stick to it. I am not willing to fight this battle anymore.     The editor uses an IPv6 address that geolocates to IT&T in Chicago, and he makes very similar edits to those of a previous contributor who also removes signbot's autosignatures and also uses slovar-vocab.com for references. I won't make any accusations, or even name the registered user, of course, since these facts might just be coincidences. As a British editor, I, too, found the rant potentially offensive.     I made a dozen edits or so on the page. I really did that because of the issue addressed at the top of the page, asking the readers to help improved the page. And this man (I can assume male) accuses me of destroying the page. And he complains that I don't know British English. All of the changes I made were based off the American pronunciation of the listed words. The pronunciation given as British was a legitimate American pronunciation, or it was an accent difference based off different pronunciation of vowel classes. The page specifically addressed that such cases were not to be mentioned on that section.     Is this a good use of the edit filter?

    Someone (or a group) on Pjanoo keeps adding the entry that a YouTube user named Zeb89 (sometimes called the #1 gaming channel in Italy) uses the song in his videos. It's been ongoing since July and it's a different user each time (sometimes an account, sometimes an IP) that adds it back in. I've just added a Pagenotice to the article, but should this keep going, is it a good use of the Edit filter to just block "Zeb89" from being added to articles? hbdragon88 (talk) 07:08, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    @Hbdragon88: Since this is only one article, semi-protection would be a less expensive option.     Bright Eyes (British Band)

    About three years ago I added a page on Wikipedea that was based on fact. The band performed extensively in the UK between 1975 & 1982 were on Radio One & made a couple of albums. Yet I find that someone in Australia who had nothing to do with the band I formed calling themselves 'Malicious' has deleted the page. Please do not allow this to happen again.     You've never made any edit—deleted or otherwise—before today, and the Bright Eyes (British band) article never existed before 01:04 this morning. Wikipedia articles need to provide citations to reliable sources to indicate why the topic is notable—we're not a general directory, but only summarise material which has already been published elsewhere. ‑ Iridescent 10:45, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    Also, there is no User:Malicious so it's really hard to guess what you refer to. Two years ago [1] an IP address mentioned a British band in Bright Eyes but linked to it to an article Bright Eyes (band) about an unrelated American band. The IP has no other edits.     Firefox on my Windows laptop and Safari on my iPad, which worked fine until a few days ago, and with no hardware or software change on my end, will not let me log in no matter what I do.

    I get an error "There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking. Go back to the previous page, reload that page and then try again." Those instructions do not work.

    `If I click on "forgot your password" I get an email with a temporary password, but that gives the same error message.

    However with a different browser, Dolphin, and exactly the same user name and password, on the same iPad, I can log in just fine at the same time these programs won't let me.

    If you found it on Twitter, you can't use it. The image is copyrighted. Please do not upload images you find elsewhere on the Internet.     How to send email to a user that you mentioned in an email

    How do I send an email to a user that I mentioned in an edit. Do I just put something like User: before his name, or do I need some special characters? I have received emails like that and it appears they just put User: before my name, surrounded by double square brackets, but I'm just guessing. PS I'm new at this game.     @Zootsuit1941: It sounds like you don't actually mean Wikipedia:Emailing users but Wikipedia:Notifications. A signed edit with a wikilink to your user page will usually trigger a notification no matter how the link is made. In this edit I used {{ping|Zootsuit1941}} but I could also have written [[User:Zootsuit1941]]. A notification only causes an email if the user has enabled "Email" for "Mention" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:56, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
