No 5* Matches in the US since '97?
The last 5* Match wasn't in the US probably wasn't in 1997 when Joe had two of them in Ring of Honor or did i miss something about those matches? (84.72.64.15 (talk) 02:50, 6 March 2009 (UTC)) This guy also wrestled for the AWA as a jobber and this is why he hates wrestling should it not be noted The Torch is better than the Observer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BruceMitchellFan (talk • contribs) 10:10, 10 July 2009 (UTC) Dave didn't work as a jobber anywhere. Some promoters gave jobbers his name as an inside shot at him. It's ridiculous to say he hates wrestling. There might not be a man on the planet who has watched so much of it and devoted so much time to it.
Death?
Yesterday, there was an edit on this page which stated that Dave Meltzer died on July 20, 2010 in a car accident after returning from an MMA event. It was a pretty sick act by whoever did it, because it was done at a time which would be very early morning 20th July in the US, which means Meltzer would probably be sleeping at that time and not attending an MMA event. If he had to attend an MMA event on that night, then there was the whole day left for him to do so, and so he couldn't have died on that day after attending an MMA event unless the event occured at like 2 AM in the morning US time. Whoever did that edit, you really need to get a life. Mayankeagle (talk) 05:42, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- Someone did it again on the June 1, 2011 and I'm not about to click the "Facebook" link cited below. I doubt it's legit but until someone can verify or deny it more officially I won't change it. Talshiarr (talk) 12:53, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
MMA Observer
An editor is persistently changing the section name and adding text to say that Wrestling Observer is now named Mixed Martial Arts Observer, and no longer covers professional wrestling. I can find nothing to support this anywhere on the internet, but I suppose there's a very small chance it might be true? Does anyone know anything about it, or have any citations to support it? gnfnrf (talk) 17:09, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Awards Page
What has happened to the Newsletter Awards article? It seems like someone finally got pissy enough to just try and erase it. Sherick (talk) 20:51, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Five Star Rating
Will anybody be able to put a list of matches that were rated 5 star by Dave Meltzer (WorldSeriesOfPoker500 (talk) 19:03, 11 January 2012 (UTC))
Meltzer Is Not Exactly A Great Source of Information
He has earned a reputation as a tabloid journalist. Just last year, he claimed that a CM Punk was expected returning to Raw,http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2014/0302/571795/cm-punk-expected-to-return-at-monday-raw-in-chicago/ and then earned criticism from this sloppy reporting.[1] He also assumed Kelly Kelly was done with the WWE in the summer of 2003 (sorry 2012), only to find out that she would return shorty after making this claim.[2] Despite his allegation that it was just one special appearance, Kelly Kelly still wrestled in Asia and would not leave the WWE until September of that year.
Meltzer's frequent habit of trying to find Watergate-like scandals in the wrestling world is not exactly prudent either. You cannot prove that Zane Bresloff was telling the truth when he claimed that Wrestlemania III's actual attendance was 78,000. For all we know, he could have been made it up out of a grudge with the WWE or to pay for his medical expenses.174.20.103.154 (talk) 16:25, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- Kelly Kelly would have been 16 years old in 2003 so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Either way, Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Sources advises us to use the Wrestling Observer as a source for historical information and results but not rumors and speculation. No source is correct 100% of the time, speculation has no place in the encyclopedia to begin with so this should not affect us.LM2000 (talk) 02:09, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Even in 1995, Meltzer's magazine was publicly chastised by Hogan on the WCW ppv World War 3 for saying that Randy Savage had an arm injury when he in fact didn't.[3] I also meant to type in 2012 as well. 2003 was the year when Meltzer sensationalized the Wrestlemania 3 attendance and I got the dates mixed up. I have fixed the error174.20.103.154 (talk) 15:33, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- As I said before, no source is correct 100% of the time. When the US supreme court ruled that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was constitutional, almost every mainstream US media outlet reported that the supreme court had ruled that it was unconstitutional. Such errors happen from time to time regardless of the source, this encyclopedia has a number of articles dedicated to controversies at the BBC, CNN, Fox News, etc. Regardless of their occasional errors, there's a difference between CNN and the National Enquirer and the BBC and the Daily Mail and there's a difference between Dave Meltzer and dirtsheets. We're heading into WP:NOTFORUM territory with this discussion, unless you have a reliable source which describes notable Meltzer controversies which can be incorporated into the article. If you don't think that wikipedia should be using him as a source then you need to start a discussion at WT:PW. We currently use the Observer for results and historical information but not for rumors or speculation, so your concerns about some of his opinions would not be used by us in the first place. This isn't unlike how we use other sources... a number of mainstream sources have reported speculation that Bruce Jenner is transitioning into a woman, we are waiting for solid confirmation before that is reflected in Jenner's article.LM2000 (talk) 21:54, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
