Plot summary

Set in 1996 in the village of Azadganj, Udaan is the story of the bonded labourers of a wealthy landlord, Kamal Narayan Rajvanshi. Chakor (Spandan Chaturvedi), is kept as servant under him. While Chakor's mother, Kasturi Bhuvan (Sai Deodhar), is pregnant with her, Kasturi's father, Hariya, dies in an accident. Bhuvan has nothing to donate in Hariya's funeral resulting him to beg for money from Kamal Narayan. Instead, his wife Tejaswini suggests that they have to keep the unborn child as a collateral. The couple agrees that the child can be Rajvanshi's bonded labourer. Kasturi gives birth to a daughter, Chakor. Tejaswini allows them to take her home for seven years; then she must be brought back to Rajvanshi to serve.

After seven years, Chakor enters the haveli. She is a fearless, kind-hearted, and intelligent girl. In the haveli, she meets and befriends Vivaan Rajvanshi, Manohar Rajvanshi's son. With Vivaan's help, Chakor escapes the haveli but is dragged back into slavery by Kasturi again. While being supported by Ishwar Rawat, she dreams of freedom. Ishwar adores Chakor like his daughter and wants her to be educated. Chakor goes to school, where Arjun Khanna (Vineet Raina), a physical education trainer, enters Chakor's life.

Ishwar is determined, against all odds, that Chakor be educated. His father, Prabhakar Rawat, tries to return Chakor to Rajvanshi. Chakor meets Bhagya (Sheetal Pandya), Kamal Narayan's daughter. Arjun and Bhagya fall in love and get married. Ishwar dies in a bomb blast set by Kamal Narayan.

After ten years

The show leaps ahead ten years, following Chakor, who has now become a runner. Imli, her sister loves Sooraj(Kamal Narayan's son). Chakor loves Vivaan. To free the people of Azadgunj from the clutches of Kamal Narayan and Sooraj, she becomes a top runner. On her and Tina's(Chakor's running competitor) marriage with Vivaan and Sooraj respectively, she swaps Tina with Imli as Imli is pregnant with Sooraj's child. But Sooraj knowing the bridal swap, marries Chakor and Vivaan marries Imli. After several incidents, Vivaan and Imli, who lost her child start loving each other. Chakor and Sooraj too start loving each other. Vivaan believes that Imli is bearing Sooraj's child again and Sooraj tries to get Chakor back to his life.Vivaan believes that that is his own child. The current plot is that Imli thinks that Chakor told truth about her child to Vivan that She lost her child. She created misunderstandings between Suraj and Chakor. She hates her. With the help of Ranvijay and Kamal Narayan She tried to kill Suraj and Chakor many times but failed. In Banaras Ranvijay wanted to kill Suraj. Suraj and Ranvijay fight with each other and Suraj won. Police has arrested Ranvijay. Ranvijay's family get freedom from Ranvijay. Suraj and Chakor decided to go to Azadganj.
