Beawar (or Nayanagar) is a town in the Rajasthan state of India.

Beawar is a town of British India, the administrative headquarters of Merwara district in Ajmere Merwara. It is 33 miles from Ajmere, with a 1901 population of 21,928. It is an important centre of trade, especially in raw cotton, and had cotton presses and the Krishna cotton mills.

Beawar was founded by Colonel Dixon in 1835.

Beawar is located at 26°06′N 74°19′E / 26.1°N 74.32°E / 26.1; 74.32^[1]. It has an average elevation of 439 metres (1440 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census Template:GR, Beawar had a population of 123,701. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Beawar has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
