Template:Non-free reduce

This non-free media file should be replaced with a smaller version to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and United States copyright law. According to Wikipedia's policy for non-free content, the amount of copyrighted work used under fair use should be as little as possible. In particular, non-free media on Wikipedia should not be usable as substitutes for the original work. A high-resolution non-free image is questionable fair use and may be deleted per Wikipedia's copyright policy.

In most cases, this reduction will occur automatically: simply wait 24 hours and a robot will resize the image file according to the guideline at WP:Image resolution - note: for SVG images this is just a change of the nominal size to <100,000 pixels to prevent the wiki software generating a large png image for default display - where SVG images are deemed to be too high resolution with respect to the number of vectors, these may be tagged with {{Non-free manual svg reduce}}. Where an automatic reductions does not occur or if a manual reduction is desired, the size of an image may be reduced in an image editing program (for jpg/png/gif) or vector editing program (for svg) or by saving and re-uploading a suitably sized thumbnail.

Usage

This template should be added to the oversized file. Files tagged with this template are placed in the Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests. Once an oversized file has been replaced by a reduced version, it should be tagged with {{subst:orphaned non-free revisions}}.

• For non-free video clip or file, add {{Non-free reduce|type=video}}
• For non-free screenshot, add {{Non-free reduce|type=screen}}
• For non-free poster, add {{Non-free reduce|type=poster}}
• For non-free currency, add {{Non-free reduce|type=money}}
• For non-free SVG file, add {{Non-free reduce|type=svg}}
• Otherwise add {{Non-free reduce}}
