- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
The family and relationships group was the most similar, and it is now defunct. I think it was probably too general. I also considered wikiproject children and wikiproject pediatrics but decided to go for parenting first because this is the target demographic for readers of articles to be worked on. The other groups are all academic subjects or too specific.
The point of this group is would be to edit and improve articles that are of importance and of interest to parents. When people become new parents, they do a lot of research, and unfortunately I've noticed that a lot of parenting topics are poorly covered on Wikipedia, and most parents are reading other sources instead (such as Kelly Mom, Baby Center, Mumsnet, Facebook and even Reddit). When I became a parent I used Kelly Mom a lot, noticed an error in an article, and sent her an e-mail asking her to correct it... and two years later, the error is still there! So I would like to see a lot of that content on Wikipedia instead where mistakes can be corrected!
(I actually went and created the group already without realising that this project existed to do this ^-^.)
