Hamrin

Hamrin is a mountain range in Iraq that extend from Diyala province, 60 km east of Baghdad, and borders on Iran and extend to oil rich city of Kirkuk, 260 km north of Baghdad. longitude about 43.64639.

Hamrin is also the name of a small town which sits on the western shore of a man-made lake of the same name, both of which are at the southern extreme of the Jebel Hamrin, or Hamrin Mountains.

Hamrin is home to approximately 12,000 people most of whom are Sunni Arabs, although there are sizeable minorities of Shia Muslims, as well as ethnic Kurds and Turkomen. Most revenue comes from fishing and subsistence agriculture, and unemployment is estimated at approximately 70%. In stark contrast to its neighbors, there is little threat from terrorists or insurgents in Hamrin and its people cooperate with the Iraqi security forces and the US Army.
