Sam Hamidi-Kazemian[5] (born February 12, 1993) is an Iranian-American software programmer.[2] He is the co-founder and president of Everipedia,[3] a for-profit, wiki-based online encyclopedia.[6] He founded Everipedia with Theodor Forselius in December 2014.[4]
Education
Kazemian attended Westlake High School, where he participated in athletics.[7] He was a member of the UCLA Powerlifting team from 2012 until 2015.[8] Kazemian was a double major in neuroscience and philosophy at UCLA.[2] He graduated from UCLA in 2015.[9]
Everipedia
Starting as a small project in Kazemian's dormitory room at UCLA, Sam Kazemian founded Everipedia with Theodor Forselius in December 2014.[4] Kazemian and Forselius constructed the first MVP for Everipedia while Kazemian was still at UCLA.[10]
In 2017, Kazemian told Boing Boing that "Wikia, like Wikipedia, uses really old software that was built in 2001. Meanwhile there are all these new, modern crowd-knowledge sites like Rap Genius, Quora and StackOverflow, but nobody ever tried to attack the original beast - a wiki of everything - with the new, modern tools. That is what Everipedia aims to do."[6] In 2017, he stated that Everipedia aims to be the largest online encyclopedia.[11]
Personal life
Kazemian resides in Los Angeles, California, US.[2] In 2013, he became interested in Bitcoin.[12] He mined over 50 various cryptocoins to become more familiar with them and to find out about the changes that were occurring in the blockchain.[13] The top cryptocoins he preferred were Dogecoin, Namecoin, Datacoin (defunct), and Vertcoin.[13] Kazemian stated that in 2014 there were many successful cryptocurrencies to mine.[12] In his dormitory room, Kazemian assembled a GPU and CPU mining operation using his outdated desktop computers and laptops to mine cryptocurrencies.[12]
