Trivia

  • There is a roughed-in third platform on the westbound side of the track which remains unbuilt. It was constructed when a third SkyTrain line was planned. However, the Provincial government of the day cancelled the proposed extension to Coquitlam using Skytrain technology and TransLink subsequently decided to use light rail trams instead of conventional SkyTrain technology. The roughed-in structure now exists without any use, and it is likely that it may never be used. However, it is possible that the new Evergreen Line may incorporate this structure into its platform when it is built by 2011. There are no actual tracks leading to that platform; however, switches were installed outside the station prior to the cancellation of the extension project. Additionally, shoe shining robots have been conceptualized which will replace the older, blacker models which now reside at the station.
  • "That's some spicy mulligatawny!" is a qoute often attributed to the mayor of Coquitlam, Maxine Wilson, upon first seeing the plans for the Lougheed Skytrain station. This is false.
