(Americentricity)
This article seems US-centric in places, compare to jurisdiction. It's a difficult line to walk. Perhaps we need a separate article specifically about the US system? Andrewa 16:53, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
(Oath)
I have removed the incredibly U.S.-specific information about the oath taken when giving testimony. It was:
- The oath taken by a person when taking the stand is, while there right hand is in the air and the left is on the Bible:
- Prosecutor:Do you swear that the testimony you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God.
- Witness:I Do
I can't see a reasonable way to incorporate this in this article without again making it US-specific (more than it already is). --Saforrest 23:25, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
- That is not just overly U.S.-specific, but overly specific as to time and jurisdiction within the US, and also erroneous as to several details (a bailiff or clerk generally administers the oath, "there" is a misspelling of "their", and there have surely always been provisions for modifying the ritual for those without the normal complement of hands).
It is also implausible that any US state currently fails to provide for testimony (e.g. by "oath or affirmation") for those with a "scruple" against either religious or other oaths (adherents of most of the flavors of Quakerism, some Biblical literalists --"Let your Aye be Aye and your Nay be Nay, anything else comes from evil" -- and some secularists) and others for whom a specifically religious oath adds nothing to their credibility and may detract (deists and atheists, including orthodox Buddhists). And it's probable that there have long been variations in wording, if only bcz Louisiana's state laws are not derived from English common law.

Dear wikipedist: I added an extra paranormal-spiritual-psychopathological sense of considering the concept "witness". I hope it is ok for you. Iam registered as esiomajb or esiomajb1 wikipedia user. best regards, M.Jordan 134.2.102.192 (talk) 20:13, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Reliability
Every paragraph after the first (which needs attention, as indicated) should be moved to the the appropriate main article(s): eyewitness identification and eyewitness testimony.Froid 01:35, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
witness credibility
as far this goes i think you should add more examples of witness being taken out of cases or at least offer statistics. also would suggest describing the process of credibility with more detail you example what it takes but not how they find out if the person fits the criteria. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbere43 (talk • contribs) 19:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
Bear witness
In the "See also" section, is the link to an Australian band's album called Bear Witness an error or a joke? Mbshu (talk) 17:33, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
