Scott Z. Burns wrote the screenplay and production was set to commence in the fall of 2018.[2] In May 2018, it was reported that Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas were in talks to star in the film with Netflix interested in acquiring the distribution rights.[3][4] Soderbergh affirmed Netflix would likely be the films distributor in July.[5] In August 2018, Alex Pettyfer joined the cast of the film.[6] In October, Netflix was confirmed to be releasing the movie, with David Schwimmer and Will Forte added to the cast.[7] That same month, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeffrey Wright, Chris Parnell, James Cromwell, Melissa Rauch, Larry Wilmore and Robert Patrick joined the cast of the film.[8][9]
