Survivor: Edge of Extinction is the upcoming 38th season of the American competitive reality television series Survivor, to air on CBS. The season will feature 14 new contestants competing with four returning players. The season will premiere on February 20, 2019.[2] It was the seventh season to be filmed in Fiji, and marks the 12th season to feature returning players.
Production
This season introduces a new mechanic, wherein contestants who are voted off have an option to take a boat to an area known as the "Extinction Island"[3] rather than leave the game permanently. Extinction Island is a desolate, abandoned beach with even fewer amenities than the main island: contestants on the Extinction Island may either wait for an opportunity to re-join the main game, or may choose to leave the game at any point. The remaining contestants will initially be unaware of this twist. Host Jeff Probst explained that the "Extinction Island" concept was the result of a goal to "try to get a little deeper psychologically, a little deeper spiritually", asking contestants, "is there a possibility of the spiritual death and rebirth that you seek in life, where you realize something deeper about yourself?"[4][5]
Contestants
The 14 new contestants include educator Ron Clark.[6]
