Marcel Eckardt (born 27 October 1989 in Gera, Thuringia) is a German snooker referee.
Career
Eckardt is from Töppeln close to Gera.[1] In the age of 13 years, Eckardt became interested in snooker, because he watched transmissions at Eurosport. Because there was not any possibility to play snooker around his home, he began very late to play snooker and played especially pool billiard.[2] He made his first referee course in 2008 in Hohenstein-Ernstthal. He earned the C-Licence of the national association of Thuringia and later the national B-licence. In 2010, he refereed for the first time a match with professional players during a exhibition tournament in Brugge with Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis and others.[3] In the same year, he applied as a referee for the new Players Tour Championship and earned experience during European tournaments and in qualification matches for the Main Tour. At the 2012 Paul Hunter Classic, he refereed for the first time a PTC-final.[1] At the 2012 German Masters, he refereed for the first time a match in an full ranking tournament.
