The gameplay combines elements of role-playing and action/adventure. The player controls Doug Funnie and his dog Porkchop as they wander around Bluffington in search of Doug's crush, Patti Mayonnaise, after she fails to meet him as scheduled. Along the way, Doug must speak to various characters from the series, including his parents and sister Judy and his friends Skeeter, Beebe, Chalky, Roger, and the Sleech brothers Al and Moo, and complete various errands for them in return for clues about Patti's whereabouts.
