Carney Landis (or Landis’ Facial Expressions Experiment)

Carney Landis (Jan. 11 1897 - Mar. 5 1962) was a research psychologist, and notably the Chief Research Psychologist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and Hospital. He is perhaps most notable for his Facial Expressions Experiment, in which he drew lines on participants’ faces and examined their expressions as he subjected them to emotional trauma (for example, a thirteen-year-old boy was made to cut off a living rat’s head).
