Shane and Friends was an American audio-visual podcast created by YouTuber Shane Dawson, hosted by himself, Jessica Buttafuoco (originally his producer, Lauren Schnipper), and Drew Monson. The podcast premiered on June 5, 2013 on SoundCloud and iTunes. The show focuses on Dawson and Buttafuoco discussing events happening in popular culture, their personal lives, and those of other celebrities. They also interviewed various celebrities such as Amanda Lepore, Jennette McCurdy, Jamie Kennedy, Eugenia Cooney, Joey Graceffa, CupcakKe, Aislinn Paul, Chris Crocker, Dita von Teese, Social Repose, Gabbie Hanna, Trisha Paytas, and Farrah Abraham.[1]
Its interview-format has been compared to that of Howard Stern, with Dawson stating: "Howard Stern is one of my idols. I love interviewing people and getting them to talk about things they’ve never talk about." In 2015, iTunes featured the show in their "Best of 2015" podcast list. As of April 2016 it also airs on Fullscreen in a talk show format, with the podcast being filmed in a new studio.[2][3]
In November 2017, it was announced that Fullscreen's streaming service, which Shane and Friends has been broadcasting on since April 2016, would be shutting down in January 2018, halting production of the podcast for the time being.
In March 2019, after controversies surrounding Dawson's remarks in certain podcast episodes, all past episodes of the podcast were deleted from both iTunes and Soundcloud, though many unofficial copies of the audio can be found online.
History
Shane and Friends' pilot episode premiered on June 5, 2013. The episode featured an interview with YouTube personality and singer Rebecca Black. After that they had a total of 15 podcast episodes until the end of 2013. The second season of Shane and Friends was officially released on January 14, 2014, featuring returning guest Rebecca Black. This season marked the departure of Lauren Schnipper as both executive producer and co-host, and she was later replaced with Jessie Buttafuoco.
The third season of Shane and Friends was released on January 6, 2015, featuring guest Ricky Dillon. The show went on a brief hiatus during the month of August as Shane was recovering from an injury, and officially returned on August 28, 2015. The fourth season of Shane and Friends released on January 15, 2016. On March 30, 2016, Fullscreen Media officially announced that the show would be available on Fullscreen SVOD. The first episode on Fullscreen SVOD was released on April 26, 2016 with guest Lilly Singh. From May 22, 2017 onwards, the episodes were filmed in a new studio, and Shane's friend Drew Monson became a permanent member of the cast; the episode featured Farrah Abraham's mother, Debra Danielson, as a guest.
