Early History

The airline had its beginnings in Carnarvon, Western Australia when it operated as Northwest Air Taxis using a single Cessna 172.

Originally focussing on air charter services it was known as Transwest Aircharter operating from bases in Jandakot Airport, Geraldton, Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie.[2]

When it amalgamated with Skywest Airlines in 1981 it was the largest commuter airline in Western Australia operating a range of Cessna,[1] Aerocommander,[1] Beechcraft[1] and Britten Norman Islander[1] aircraft[1] employing 28 pilots operating out of 6 regional bases in Western Australia.
