A Droga da Obediência (The Drug of Obedience) is a novel in a series by Brazilian writer Pedro Bandeira originally published in 1984 by Editora Moderna. It is aimed at young adults. The first one of the series featured the group of teens called Os Karas (The Heads).[1] This was followed up by Pântano de Sangue, Anjo da Morte, A Droga do Amor, and Droga de Americana!.[2][3]

Synopsis

Miguel is the leader of the Os Karas gang, which unveils crimes and stranger mysteries. Other members of the group include Crânio, Magrí, Calu, and Chumbinho. Miguel gathers the group in a hiding place (located under a trapdoor, which is inside a closet of cleaning products) to talk about the wave of disappearances that have occurred in several schools in which twenty-seven students have disappeared.[4][5]

Main characters

Miguel

It has no nickname. It was he who decided to gather some friends and, as a joke, created a secret group at the school where he is the president of the Student Union. It is he who leads the friends and defines the steps to be taken by the Os Karas.

Chumbinho

Love of video games and computers, with his intelligence and bravery, he smells new adventures from far. That was precisely what made Chumbinho discover the secret group at the school where he worked.

Magrí

The best high school athlete who was the hope of Brazil to attain an Olympic medal. Although delicate and gentle, if it is necessary to save one of her friends or there is any new adventure, Magrí becomes a real “cat,” dangerous and ready to act, taking any risk.

Calú

An actor who is extremely extroverted and playful. He is always in a good mood and ecourages the Os Karas during the adventure. Despite being the most handsome boy at High School, he really loved Magrí.

Crânio

He's the smart guy. He is a quiet and thoughtful chess champion who gets the best grades in school. In the name of friends and adventures, he leaves everything when it comes to Maximum Emergency. Like Calú, he is also in love with Magrí. [6]
