M. P. M. Ahammed Kurikkal

M. P. M. Ahammed "Bapu" Kurikkal (1921 - 1968) was an Indian politician and social worker who served as the Minister for Local Self Governments in Kerala Government from 1967 to 1968.[1][2] He had started his career in politics early in his life as a part of the Congress Party and later joined the Muslim League in 1950. He later also became the Vice-President of the Indian Union Muslim League.[3] He conceived the creation of the Malappuram District in central Kerala in the late 1960s.[2]

He was the Indian Union Muslim League representative to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Kondotty (1957 and 1960) and Malappuram (1967).[1][2]

He was also managing the portfolios of Panchayats and Community Development and Fisheries in the Cabinet of Sri. E.M.S in 1967, until his death in 1968.[4]

Kurikkal died in October, 1968 while serving as a minister in the Second Namboodiripad Ministry (United Front Government) .[1]
