Statesville is a city in Iredell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 23,320 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Iredell CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Statesville is located at 35°47′12″N 80°52′43″W / 35.78667°N 80.87861°WInvalid arguments have been passed to the {{#coordinates:}} function (35.786793, -80.878531)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 53.4 km² (20.6 mi²). 53.2 km² (20.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.34%) is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 23,320 people, 9,338 households, and 5,957 families residing in the city. The population density was 438.6/km² (1,135.9/mi²). There were 10,041 housing units at an average density of 188.8/km² (489.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 59.94% White, 31.87% African American, 0.18% Native American, 2.71% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.84% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.11% of the population.
There were 9,338 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.7% were married couples living together, 17.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 86.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.0 males.
