Eagley F.C.
Hi, noticed you're somewhat the resident expert on the fine clubs of the West Lands league, and have written some good articles. I created a small article for Eagley F.C. in one of my 'argh, a red link, destroy it!' moments, using info gleaned from other articles. However, it could use your touch. Also, the article on Eagley, if you know anything of the place. Cheers and happy wiki'ing! Grunners 15:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and you may want to check any club articles you create are linked to from List of football clubs in England. Grunners 15:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
No, I wouldn't say they're too small. Nowhere on the article does it say it's a list of clubs above a certain level, and there's some other equally small teams on there. Grunners 18:00, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Further to your edits to the page today, I would like to add an Infobox on the page similar to those on other club pages. Yesterday I added a basic infobox to the Wyre Villa F.C. page. Unfortunately I do not know the Wyre Villa second kit so made it all white for now. However, for Blackpool Wren Rovers, do you know the following that can be included in the infobox?
- Manager
- Capacity
- Second Kit colours (inc sock colours)
If it is ok would you leave the info on my talk page? Or if you would prefer to add the infobox yourself, by all means do!
Thank you. Tangerines 17:13, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi, many thanks for your response. I will add the details to the pages. I also just realised that the Blackpool Gazette might have some of the information from their match reports, so I will check their online site. ♦ BFC ♦·Talk 14:56, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your message. I wasn't casting any doubt as to whether the three clubs should be included in the West Lancashire League (WLL) article. I was pointing out that there was no evidence to show that they competed in the WLL given that wikipedia is strict in having reliable verifiable sources. The other teams it is mentioned that they competed in the WLL, but Great Harwood Town F.C. and Kendal Town F.C. don't mention them playing (under the previous names) in the WLL. The official Kendal website I see now does mention they played for 3 seasons in the 1930s in the WLL so fair enough. However, the way the section is it comes across as if these are clubs who were WLL regulars who have gone on to bigger and better things. Yet Kendal (as Netherfield) played just three seasons in the league. I think the section is a good idea but (in my opinion) it should be much more than just a list of clubs - which is why I added details, again partly to get away from it just being a list. Perhaps it would be better if you wish to include the likes of Kendal (Netherfield) who have only played a very short time in the league, that each clubs entry is slightly expanded upon. Also I removed all the line breaks you had placed in as they were not required. Still good work though, the only thing that needs done and is perhaps more important than a list of clubs who have plated at a higher level is adjusting the season to 2007-08 and the correct teams in each division. As you clearly have a lot of very good knowledge about the league, anc created most of the articles perhaps you could do that? Have fun! ♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 23:23, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Notability of Blackrod Town F.C.
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Blackrod Town F.C., by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Were all the "Player of the decade" accolades awarded on Tuesday, or just Humphreys'? - Dudesleeper / Talk 13:46, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Athenian League name
Do you have a source for the FA rejecting the Corinthian League name? Cheers, Number 57 15:10, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, my source for the Athenian League name change is the Athenian Football League minutes 1912-1921 which are held at National Football Museum in Preston. Apparently the name 'Home Counties League' was also suggested before the name Athenian League was found to be acceptable. Higherwiki (talk) 15:47, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- Could you add it to the article? Cheers, Number 57 00:35, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
James Mitchell (footballer, born 1897)
Why did you undo my revisions of this article yesterday while I was still in the process of making corrections to try and get it into an acceptable format? As the article stands it is full of inaccuracies and omissions. It's alright writing that 'sources say 1897' but this is not a good enough reason if the particular source is wrong in what it says. I have thought for a long time that this is an article that needs an almost complete re-write. In particular - the birth year is wrong - it should be 1895; the birth place is wrong - it should be Waddington (near Clitheroe); the information about him being a professional is wrong - he was an amateur throughout his playing career; there is no mention of him playing for Fleetwood FC; there is no mention of him playing for the England Amateur International team - he made 5 appearances; there is no mention of him being picked to play for Amateurs v. Professionals in an FA Charity Shield match; etc. Of course one of the first corrections needed is that the title of the article ought to be 'James Mitchell (footballer, born 1895)'. Please let me know what authority I need for you to allow me to update the article. - Higherwiki / Talk 22:21, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information. What sources do you have for 1895/Fleetwood etc.? All the ones present on the article say 1897. GiantSnowman 09:31, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
Thankyou for the reply about reliable sources. I believe that my sources are more reliable than some of the current sources referenced in this article. In particular: The GRO online index of deaths gives his birthdate as 18 November 1895. The 1939 Register also gives this birthdate. The 1911 Census gives his age as 15 (agreeing with a birth year of 1895), and gives his birthplace as Waddington, Yorkshire. The ENFA website (which includes updated information from Michael Joyce) gives a birthdate of 18 Nov 1895 and a birthplace of Waddington (Lancashire) [NOTE: Waddington was actually in Yorkshire at the time of his birth - I am a contributor to ENFA and will suggest this be corrected]. The England Football Online website also gives this same birthdate/birthplace information. The 1920-21 Lancashire Daily Post Football Handbook lists him as a Fleetwood FC player. I also have references for his England Amateur International appearances, and for his FA Charity Shield appearance. He was never a professional. As I said previously, one of the first corrections needed is that the title of the article ought to be 'James Mitchell (footballer, born 1895)'. I hope that this all sounds ok to you. Please let me know if you have any further comments (NOTE : apologies I originally updated your 2019 archive talk page, but have since undone this update). - Higherwiki / Talk 16:16, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
- You need to present this information and sources on the article talk page and seek consensus to make such major changes. GiantSnowman 16:45, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
F5pillar - I don't understand why you have reverted my edit to this entry. As Peter Daniel did not make any Football League appearances for Derby County in the 1971-72 season, how can it be one of his honours that Derby County were Football League First Division champions that season? You have commented that this is also a source of information, but surely this is information related only to Derby County and not to Peter Daniel (and as you would expect the honour is appropriately listed on the Derby County wikipedia page). - Higherwiki / Talk 14:55, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Anything related to an article is a sources of info to that page. (F5pillar---/ Let's talk🖋📩) 09:12, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited William Cook (Lancashire cricketer), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Preston and Irish League. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
